This week’s episode featured a semi-satisfactory answer to one of the show’s biggest mysteries, “Why was Chuck betrayed by Bryce?” Problem is, the answer came with a plothole so large the entire cast of The Biggest Loser could have driven through it side-by-side on Vespas.
Turns out Chuck was recruited, unbeknownst to him, by his old Stanford professor. Professor Flemming used his position as a psychology professor, to recruit potential agents for the CIA. Turns out that Chuck was not only brilliant, but especially adept at absorbing subliminal visual information. The same type of information encoded on the supercomputer Chuck’s old roomie/nemesis Bryce destroyed and downloaded into Chuck’s brain, in other words. Bryce had already been recruited into the same program, learned of Chuck’s recruitment, and faked Chuck stealing the professor’s exams in order to save his friend from military duty. Awwww.
But here’s the problem.
Bryce literally spells out his plan to the professor, who should have had alarms going off when Chuck somehow fell into the very loophole Bryce inquired about. The professor didn’t find this odd in the least? If we’re to believe the professor’s assertions, Chuck’s mind is one of a kind and not one the CIA would ever let go without the best of reasons: like, say, said brain being splattered all over the floor. But that’s it: anything else, and it’s involuntarily recruitment for Mr. Chuck.
This revelation essentially changed everything we know about Chuck’s past, which is a heckuva thing for this show to do this early. I mean, this would be like revealing Laura Palmer’s killer in Episode 4 of Twin Peaks. I’m really not sure where they go from here. If anything, this should springboard them into the next mystery: “Why did Bryce destroy the Intercept?” It will also throw Sarah’s emotions into question, as she now has to deal with her feelings about Bryce, the CIA, and Chuck himself. Chuck meanwhile can let go of his past and embrace the skill set his professor identified years ago.
OK, I’m wrong: plenty of stuff left to solve on Chuck. Just minimize the Morgan, please, who’s turning into the Johnny Drama to Chuck’s Vince, with the wacky, unrelated sub-plot each week to fill out a full episode. But if you want to emphasize the ridiculously hot female Asian coworker at the Buy More, then yes, I’d be really, really fine with that.

Didn’t Bryce steal chuck’s girlfriend at some point as well? This still makes Bryce a douche in my book. You just know she’s CIA as well, and going to pop up precisley when Chuck and Blondie start fessing up about their feelings for each other.
I hate to admit it - but I don’t mind the Morgan subplots that occur during the show. It’s a little strange but entertaining. I also would like to point out that Morgan is the same guy who does the GPS commercial where he confesses he loves the GPS-voiced-woman.
Oh, and that asian coworker isn’t that hot.
