Bank(er) On It

Desperate times here at the Boob Tube Mansion: on my television right now is Deal or No Deal, and that’s about the best option I’ve got going for me right now. Although, if I am a patient little Dude, in approximately forty-five minutes I can see the relaunch of American Gladiators, so really, what do I have to complain about? (The only way this latter show is justified is if Hulk Hogan goes on a ‘roid rage, eats a child sitting in the first row, and then shouts “Are you not entertained?” while bloody child bits spew from his gaping jaw. Somehow, I doubt this will happen.)

I’m trying to look towards other ways to entertain myself during these strike-laced months. After all, the DVR in the living room hasn’t had anything added to it for over a month now. That musical episode of Scrubs is getting awfully lonely. Lost is coming soon, which is great, but it’s also an agonizing 3 weeks away from airing. In the meantime, there are mobisodes to dissect and alternate reality games to play, so that’s something at least.

(Quick not about the ARG: I know “The Lost Experience” was difficult to the point of pain, but man, this new ARG couldn’t be more dumbed down if it tried. Ugh. Why play the game if the protagonist keeps simply repeating everything I just found? Oh, and I bet it’s Penny’s ship in Jakarta. Damnit, OK, you caught me, I’m totally hooked on it.)

I’ve been eyeing my brothers’ copy of Season 1 of Friday Night Lights, and I know I will love it, but I’m scared of making the time commitment necessary to do so. I know this sounds weird, but honestly, there are times in which the last thing I want to do is watch television. This usually happens after writing four reviews in one night and wishing nothing more than to blow off steam with a few minutes of Guitar Hero or pleasant conversation with the Boob Tube Babe. (GH usually wins though, much to her chagrin.)

Then there’s the fact that I have this, you know, full time job, which really puts a damper on my ability to watch every episode of television I want to watch. Lights is an example of that, but so is Life, and Jericho, and Lipstick Mafia. (Just kidding on the last one…seeing if you were paying attention.) Someday in the nearish future, perchance I’ll have 24 hours per day to consume more shows. I’ll be able to write full-time, with more reviews, analysis, and Tina Fey fanfic. (Mmm..Tina Fay fanfic.) But for now, I do what i can, which is quite a lot.

So near as I can tell, I maintain this blog, my old blog, a Lost-centric blog, contribute to a sci-fi blog, and write reviews in my spare time. That’s a lot of writing for Full Time Job Dude to do on the side. I also enjoy things like my wife, sleep, and occasionally seeing the sun. So I can’t beat myself up too much about that. And hey, maybe this real job is what’s between me and crippling carpal tunnel at age 33. Hard to say.

What’s easy to say, however, is that chick shouldn’t have picked Briefcase #12. What was she THINKING?
