“Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan” catches up with “The Good Wife,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and more

Mo Ryan and I caught up this week. Way up. Inspired by our “State of TV Criticism” podcast a few weeks back, we decided to look at some shows we don’t cover on a weekly basis. On tap this week: “Raising Hope,” “30 Rock,” “The Good Wife,” “How I Met Your Mother,” and “Modern Family.” We also snuck in one look at “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” in light of that series last episode.

New feature: I’ve added chapter markers, so those listening via iTunes will see the show we’re talking about. For those without iTunes, time signatures for your convenience below:

0:00 - 9:22: Intros and news about Mo’s upcoming panel hosting gigs

9:22 - 21:31: Raising Hope

21:31 - 37:16: 30 Rock

37:16- 52:25: The Good Wife

52:25 - 1:06:28: How I Met Your Mother

1:06:28 - 1:17:52: Modern Family

1:17:52 - End: Spartacus: Gods of the Arena

As per usual, you can subscribe to the podcast here. Subscribing is your best option to ensure you get all episodes of “Talking TV with Ryan and Ryan” as soon as they are available. Recently, there’s been a slight lag in what iTunes store shows versus what’s actually available if you subscribe, so subscribe away to get the latest and greatest ASAP. But if you absolutely hate iTunes on the same level on which Mo hates the fact that one of her favorite shows of all time is over, here’s another link for downloading MP3s. Or, you can listen to it right now by hitting up the podcast’s native site here. Lots of options. No hatin’.

Enjoy!

Love the podcast! I wondered why you’ve moved to m4a files? My mp3 player doesn’t play them :(

Anyway changing the subject are you a fan of Torchwood? Any plans for a preview podcast prior to its return laster in the year?

Changed to different format to accommodate the chapter titles. But it sounds like you heard the podcast all the same, so glad to hear it.

We’ll definitely be covering Torchwood as the show approaches.

Thanks for replying - yeah i can listen on my phone but can only use the crappy headphones that came with it! For the record I’d prefer mp3s!

Anyway glad to hear that you’ll be covering Torchwood. Its going to be interesting to see what impact Starz co-producing has - I’m all for a weekly orgy in Spartacus but I’m not sure that we need that in Torchwood!

Mate. Love the podcast. But any chance you can go back to the MP3 version or at least provide an option? My player(s) won’t play that file at all! (and I can’t abide itunes…i know I know..it’s the pinacle of human civilisation etc. But to be fair that’s what I think about Community..!)

    Otherwise-keep up the good work

Would love to hear this edition and future podcasts (I’ve been listening every week) but the device I listen on doesn’t play m4a files. Any plans to release mp3 versions, too? There are several commenters on Mo’s page wondering the same thing. I get that m4a files have some benefits, but not everyone can play them.

Please see the recent podcast entry. Unfortunately, it’s a no go on that, tho according to the interwebs, there are plenty of ways to convert this file. Going forward, I’m saving everyone the headache and just doing MP3s. It offers less features, but seems to allow more people to listen.
